Tips In Caring For Your Cocky-Healing Cut Mat:

Hello everyone, my Tips In Caring For Your Self-Healing Cutting Mat post is proving extremely popular across the internet, and my tip list is being printed off and shared. Thanks for your support in accelerate - Chris :D

Your mat volition warp hands

:

don't roll for a prolonged period - the time it takes to get it home from the shop when you buy it should be okay as long as you don't take the tiresome railroad train dwelling house! - only once your mat's been used, don't practise it equally it will open up up lines where y'all've cut on it and can crusade the mat to crack;

don't stand it on its edge - lie it flat, on your cutting table or under a sofa or bed;

don't fe or apply estrus - don't put hot food, drinks or laptops on your mat;

don't go out in directly sunlight or against a radiator or other heat source;

don't leave information technology in a motorcar on a sunny day.

Did you know your cut mat needs moisture, which volition make cutting easier, and your rotary cut blades won't dull as speedily? To moisturise your mat occasionally, place information technology in a cool water bath with approximately one/4 cup of white vinegar to every gallon of water. Leave to soak for nearly 20 minutes. Using a soft mushroom scrubbing castor and a splash of gentle liquid soap, you can clean the surface at the same time. Rinse and air or towel dry (no heat or direct sunlight!). If your mat smells, this should really assistance.

Several people take asked how to soak a mat that's as well large for the bath. My mat is giant and won't fit in my tub either; I soak one-half then plough information technology and soak the other one-half. Admittedly, information technology's harder to do this when you lot take an American bathtub rather than a European bath/soaker tub as they're and so minor, only I've managed it.

Avoid repeated cut lines

:

Endeavour to cut regular cuts on different sections of the mat. Frequent use of one measured line will create grooves and somewhen piece through your mat, causing problems when cutting and blunting your rotary cutting bract. This is a regular occurrence working in a quilt store, specially on the quarter g and thou lines!!!

If a department of your mat fails, don't throw your mat out; instead, use heavy scissors (not your fabric scissors!) to cut the mat into templates and smaller sections, keen for retreats and travelling.

Assist, My Cutting Mat's Warped!

As estrus warps cutting mats, my best advice would be to use heat to your reward to 'warp' information technology dorsum into shape. It won't hurt to try this method. On a hot day, put your mat outside on a dry flat surface, or lay it flat in the boot of your machine, now identify heavy books or similar over the entire surface. Leave the mat there until the lord's day has gone and the mat has time to cool naturally. Fingers crossed, your mat will be flat over again.

I saw this youtube video past Hedi Salm - How To Set A Warped Cutting Mat. I haven't done this myself, so I'm in no way saying she'south right and information technology works, but if you have a warped mat yous might want to watch this video and make up one's mind for yourself whether to requite her technique a get or not!
